The Kalgidhar Society, Baru Sahib, started Akal University in 2015 under Punjab Act No. 25 of 2015. The school opened on July 17, 2015. The institution is private and recognized by the UGC and NCTE. It is in Talwandi Sabo, which is spiritually important, and is about 58 km from Bathinda
The campus covers 40 to 100 acres and combines modern academic facilities with the values of Sikh history and value-based education that are in line with the visions of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Sant Iqbal Singh Ji.

Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies is a totally residential and free program that requires academic quality and may involve a spiritual aptitude test.
Getting into PG and Ph.D
Needs a bachelor's or master's degree with at least 60% or 55%, respectively. For other programs, like the MBA, M.Phil., and Ph.D., admissions are based on merit and an interview or entrance test.
University-administered tests and personal interviews are commonly required for MBA and MCA programs.
When to Apply
Applications usually open in December or January, and the program starts taking students in July or August for the academic year.
You can apply online or in person, and you need to send in your academic transcripts, entrance/admission test scores (if applicable), and category certificates.

Awards, Affiliations, and Faculty
UGC-approved school; NCTE certification lets it offer B.Ed. and teacher training courses
Many of the faculty members have PhDs and have trained at top schools like IISc, IITs, JNU, NIPER, and others.
The school also gives free coaching for competitive exams like UGC-NET, IAS/PCS, SSC, Bank PO, NDA/CDS, which shows that they want to help students go on from university education.
There are partnerships with the University of North Carolina in the US that let students finish the second year of their MBA program overseas.
How much it costs and scholarships
Structure of Fees
Science, arts, and commerce degrees cost between ₹22,000 to ₹92,000 per year, whereas professional programs like the MBA cost around ₹7.5 L/year.
The cost of postgraduate courses varies, however the cost of MBA and MCA courses is in line with what private universities charge in the country.
Scholarships and Financial Aid:
High-achieving students (≥90% on qualifying examinations) can get merit scholarships worth up to ₹1,09,000 per year.
Minority scholarships and Post-Matric SC/OBC scholarships are available for individuals from Punjab.
There is no cost for tuition or room and board for the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies program.
More help from the Kalgidhar Society is provided for students in need and for certain groups.
Support for Jobs and Placements
The Training and Placement Cell helps students get ready for jobs by giving them practice interviews, group discussions, aptitude testing, and strong soft-skill training, such as English language labs
Recruiters are invited to give internships and employment offers, and there are some chances to talk to them through seminars and lectures. There aren't any public placement figures, but the focus is on overall employability more than high-package outcomes.
Different Programs and Values
Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies is the first of its type in India. It is a three-year honors program with full residency and free boarding and accommodation. It combines scriptural study, Sikh history, and interfaith teaching.
The curriculum covers tutoring for competitive exams like IAS/PCS, UGC-NET, Bank PO, SSC, and others. This is usually free or low-cost for students.
Value-based education based on the spiritual values of Sikhism attempts to promote discipline, good character, a drug-free campus culture, and a focus on community service.
Community Comments and Observations
There isn't much comment about this university on Reddit, but there are other communities that talk about mid-tier private universities in Punjab. They often warn about "mid colleges" and tell people not to pay for capitation seats, however these warnings aren't specific to Akal University. These general remarks support merit-based selection and advise caution about private institutions.
Akal University has a good reputation for discipline, safety (particularly for female students), and spiritual grounding. However, it doesn't show up much in national rankings, and there isn't much public information on where students end up after graduation. Some comments from alumni say that value-based student support and unique programs (such Sikh studies) are what set mid-tier private universities apart from the others.
